Front brake pads replacement tutorial
Step 1. Jack the wheel you’re working on and make sure that the car is securely supported.
Step 2. With the 19mm socket remove the front wheel you’re working on.
Step 3. Remove the retaining metal spring with the help of a screw driver.
Step 4. Using a flat screw driver remove the black plastic covers protecting the caliper bolts, on the back of the caliper (marked with “A” in the picture below).
Step 5. With the Allen 7mm socket remove both bolts securing the caliper.
Step 6. Push the caliper up. You may need to force the caliper up a little bit with a flat screw driver (pictured below). You may need to force the piston a little bit back by pushing on the pad of the caliper side.
Be sure not to leave the caliper hanging by the brake hose! I usually use a small cord to secure it to the suspension spring.
Step 7. Wind the piston in to get space to fit the new pads. I use a caliper wind tool, but you can just force the piston back manually or with the help of a big plier.
Step 8. Insert the new brake pads in place. The one that goes on the caliper side have the spring to hold it to the piston (left on the image below). The other one just needs to be placed on the caliper hanger(right on the image below).
Step 9. Re-install the caliper, tighten both rear bolts to 27.5 Nm and then insert the dust covers for the caliper bolts.
Step 10. Press the retaining spring in place.
Re-install the wheel back on and you’re done!
