All you need to know to service your Volvo 850, S70, V70 Classic (years 1997 to 1999) and C70 (years 1997 to 1998) with petrol engines, according to the Official Volvo Service Schedule Interval Plan / Scheduled Maintence Servicing.
This guide will help you trough this process, for all 5 cylinder petrol engines with engine codes starting in B52. If your car is a Diesel engine or the newer C70 or V70 model, check our Volvo Maintenance Plans List for the correct plan.
All the information in this article is in accordance with the Service Schedule Intervals Plan specified by Volvo. Nevertheless, you should allways confirm with your car owners manual before any servicing.
Every one year or 15.000 kms / 10.000 miles schedule service interval:
1. Change engine oil and oil filter
2. Parking brake: Check and adjust if needed
3. Check tire pressure
4. Check brake pads and brake discs wear (minimum thickness of front brake pads: 3 mm/0,12″. minimum thickness of rear brake pads: 2 mm/0,8″)
5. Check the Engine for oil and water leaks
6. Gearbox, power train, drive shafts – check for oil leaks and play – In event of leakage from the gearbox, check the gearbox oil level
7. Fluid levels on engine compartment – check and adjust brake oil fluid level, power steering fluid level, engine antifreeze / coolant level
8. Exterior lights: Check all lights and replace if needed
9. Brake lines, fuel lines – check for leakage of brake oil / fuel, and damage on the lines
10. Drain off the condensation on the fuel filter
11. Check windscreen / windshield washer fluid level
12. If the car have Automatic transmission/gearbox, check if the park / neutral position (PNP) switch is ok
13. Front suspension and steering system – check for signs of wear (starting from five years or 100.000 kms / 60. 000 miles)
14. Rear suspension – check for signs of wear (starting from five years or 100.000 kms / 60. 000 miles)
15. Battery – check the pole pieces, electrolyte level and battery mounting
16. Lubricate the hinges of the doors, hood and detachable tow bar (if present)
17. Replace the passenger compartment ventilation filter
18. Reset the service reminder indicator to zero | See Instructions
19. Exhaust system – check for leakage and mounting points damage (starting from five years or 100.000 kms / 60. 000 miles)
20. Checking and adjusting the gas pressure (only on bi-fuel cars)
Additionally every two years :
1. Replace the Brake Oil fluid
Additionally every three years or 45.000 kms / 30.000 miles schedule service interval:
1. Replace the Engine Spark Plugs
Additionally every four years or 60.000 kms / 40.000 miles schedule service interval:
1. Replace the engine Air filter cleaner (ACL) and clean the engine air filter housing
2. If the car have Automatic gearbox (AW50-42), replace the automatic transmission oil.
3. Replace the gas filter (only on bi-fuel cars)
Additionally every ten years or 90.000 kms / 60.000 miles schedule service interval:
1. Clean the EGR valve
2. Replace the auxiliary belt
3. Clean crankcase ventilation nipples and hoses (B52x4T engines)
4. Replace the petrol Fuel filter
Additionally every ten years or 120.000 kms / 80.000 miles schedule service interval:
1. Replace the Timing belt and timing belt tensioner
