This tutorial explains how to replace the key fob battery in Volvo S60 (2000 to 2009), Volvo V70 (2000 to 2007), Volvo S80 (1998 to 2006), Volvo XC70 (2000 to 2007) and Volvo XC90 (2003 to 2015)
If your Volvo remote fob range of transmission is noticeably reduced or if it completely fails to open and close the car as usual, this indicates that the battery is weak and should be replaced.
There are two different kinds of remote fob styles, both pictured below. (A for cars years 1998 to 2003, B is the integrated key fob for cars years 2004- on cars). See instructions below depending on fob type.
Both types use a type CR 2032, 3 volt battery.
Remote fob 1998 to 2003 years (Type A)
Step 1· Remove the screw on the back of remote fob with a small screwdriver (ideally a T15 Torx key)
Step 2· Remove the cover carefully pressing it rearward/upward.
Step 3· Replace the battery with the new 3-volt, CR 2032 battery. The battery should be inserted with the minus (-) side upward.
Step 4· Reinstall the cover and tighten the screw.

Step 1. Remove the rear fob cover by carefully prising up the rear edge of with a small screwdriver.
Step 2. You’ll then see the the battery (type CR 2032, 3 volt); Replace it with the new one – the plus side should face up.
